Merch Spotlight: Magalí Capdevila Muntadas
Explore the inspiration, creativity behind Magalí Capdevila Muntadas’ from Barcelona to Boston collection made during her time in Boston this summer.
Magalí has been passionate about soccer since she was born. She spent the summer with the Legacy, working across departments and designing her own merch collection. Magalí’s limited run design is for the Bostonians with deep pride in their city. Here, she shares insights into her creative process, her growing connection to the city, and how professional women’s sports have impacted her.
Tell us about yourself - your background, your role with BLFC and what you’re doing now.
I am from Ripoll, a little town near Barcelona. Soccer is my greatest passion, I've been playing since I was four years old. I played for Barça for six years, before playing Division I soccer for the University of Pennsylvania. I'm currently a junior studying Business Economics concentrating in Accounting & Legal Studies with a minor in French and Francophone studies.
During my sophomore summer, I got the opportunity to work at Boston Legacy Football Club, where I worked under the Revenue and Business Operations. I did a little bit of everything, including data analytics, inventory, marketing, and merchandise. It was a great way for me to experience the business side of women’s soccer. While I was there, my former roommate [Alba Caño] signed with the club, and I was able to experience the media side of women’s professional soccer, which was exciting!
How did this collection come to be?
In my free time, I like to draw and I don't usually take it super seriously. I started looking through the merch on the club website, and thinking about possible designs. From there, I started drawing in my notebook in my free time and I came up with five different designs. After showing them to the club, we moved forward with the Boston skyline design.
What about the city of Boston is inspiring to you?
Boston, and New England as a whole, have a unique sense of belonging. Even for someone like me, who only spent a summer there, the connection is real. It doesn’t take long to feel like you're part of Boston. People that are from here, are proud of where they’re from and they’ll let you know it. I leaned into that deep sense of belonging, and pride while designing this.

Are there any parts of your own identity or experiences you’ve had growing up in Barcelona and playing soccer at Penn that show up in your design?
My experiences have definitely influenced my style. I personally love when clubs have different merchandise for different styles. We want people to have something that they can feel comfortable in. Sometimes you just want to show off the team that you support in a more subtle way.
What does Boston Legacy FC and professional women's sports mean to you?
The connection that Bostonians have to the city is very similar to the connection I have to Barcelona. People are going to grow up being Boston Legacy Football Club fans the same way I grew up being a Barça fan, and that is really exciting to see.
It's also really nice to see the way that people are investing in women's soccer. I'm grateful that I got to see it, and be a part of it this summer.
