Boston Legacy FC Midfielder Alba Caño Extends Contract Through 2029
Boston (October 23, 2026) - Boston Legacy FC has signed midfielder Alba Caño to a contract extension through the 2029 NWSL season.
A key presence in Boston’s midfield, Caño has established herself as a technically gifted and tactically intelligent player, delivering consistent performances and making important contributions throughout the club’s inaugural NWSL season.
At just 23, Caño has demonstrated impressive maturity and consistency in her first NWSL season, starting every league match and ranking second on the team with 2,357 minutes played. Her tactical understanding, technical quality and ability to influence matches have made her an integral part of the team. She has also developed strong relationships with her teammates, playing an important role in the group's collective growth throughout the season.
Caño was the second international player and fifth player overall signed by Boston Legacy, joining the club in July 2025. She will continue her journey with Boston as the club builds toward its next chapter, including its move to White Stadium in 2028.
“I’m really excited to renew and continue to be part of this project. I believe in what we are building here, and I want to keep working to create and better it,” said Alba Caño. “I’m really looking forward to our future together because I know we can and will do great things.”
“Alba has been an integral part of our team throughout our inaugural season. Since arriving from Europe, she has adapted seamlessly to the demands of the NWSL, showing a level of maturity and consistency beyond her years. Her technical ability, intelligence and composure have been key within our midfield, and she represents the type of player we want to build around as we continue to develop this club,” said Technical Director, Edward Gallagher. “Even with her strong start here in Boston, we firmly believe that some of her best football is still ahead of her. We are delighted that she has committed her future to Boston Legacy and look forward to seeing her continue to grow and establish herself as one of the leading midfielders in the NWSL.”
Caño has continued to make an impact in Boston Legacy’s midfield in 2026, appearing in 28 regular season matches with 28 starts while recording 4 goals, including the opening goal in the club’s biggest win, a 4-2 victory at Portland. Her 5’ opening goal against North Carolina Courage on 4/29 helped the club secure its first ever point in a 2-2 draw. Caño played the entire 90 minutes in 14 matches this season, and at least 80 in 21. She leads her club with 44 chances created, which ranks sixth league-wide. Caño also ranks third in the league in corners (71).
Caño, who hails from Puiggròs, Catalonia, Spain, made four starts for Barcelona’s senior team during the 2024-25 season, tallying one goal and one assist, and represented the global powerhouse in Champions League group stage in 2024. She came up through the Barcelona academy system, having spent three years with their U-19 team before playing for four years with Barcelona B, as well as appearing for the Spain U-19 youth national team in 2022.
