San Diego, CA (October 25, 2026) - The Legacy pulled off a 2-2 draw at San Diego Sunday night, thanks to goals by California native Annie Karich and midfielder Alba Caño.

Boston Legacy pressed from the opening whistle. Amanda Gutierres had the first look for Boston in the first minute, driving a shot from inside the box. Gutierres was close twice more: a footrace in the 29’ that the Wave keeper won, and a 32’ cross she couldn’t quite convert. The Wave pushed back through the first half, and goalkeeper Laurel Ivory came up big for Boston. She punched a shot away in the 15’ and came off her line to claim a ball in the 20’. In the 35’, she made two impressive saves in a row before San Diego scored on the third rebound. However, VAR ruled it offside and the goal came off the board, leveling the score at 0-0 once again.

Boston sought to find Gutierres and Aïssata up top in order to translate the high press to goals. Barbara Olivieri got her head on a Bianca St-Georges cross in the 41’, but it lacked the power to beat the keeper. Caño turned and shot in first-half stoppage time at 45+3’, but it was saved. The half ended with a close San Diego header just over the crossbar.

To begin the second half, Aleigh Gambone and Nicki Hernandez replaced Olivieri and Lilly Reale, who made her 50th NWSL appearance. Two minutes in, Boston took the lead. Sarah Schupansky’s ball in off a corner kick found Aïssata, whose shot hit the post, and Karich followed up to bury the rebound. The goal marked Karich’s first in the NWSL.

San Diego equalized in the 51’, slipping the ball into the far post to eliminate the visitors’ lead. They went ahead in the 54’, finishing a short cross at the far post that slid just past Ivory’s gloves. Nichelle Prince replaced Gutierres in the 57’. Gambone found Caño outside the box in the 73’. Caño, fresh off signing an extension with the club, turned and rocketed the ball to the top right corner to level the score once again. This was Caño’s fifth goal in the NWSL this season. A minute later, Gift Monday made her first appearance for the Legacy, relieving Karich in the 74’.

Boston continued to push late. In the 82’, Schupansky was replaced by Ella Stevens, who drove a shot over the crossbar in stoppage time. Prince delivered a final test of San Diego’s defense in the 90+7’, but the shot went wide. Both clubs held firm on defense through a lengthy stoppage time to secure a point each.
