boston legacy win final home game of inaugural season in dominant performance at gillette friday night
Foxborough, MA (October 16, 2026) - The Boston Legacy dominated Racing Louisville en route to claiming three points in their last home game of the season at Gillette Stadium Friday night.
The Legacy started out on the front foot, following Aleigh Gambone and Lilly Reale’s energetic efforts to combine up the field. Amanda Gutierres also looked to attack early, looking for a close-range shot at 5’ that was blocked. Boston continued to seek out Gutierres in the final third, but remained patient and intentional in their possessions. Their ? paid off in just the 9’, when Bianca St-Georges drove a cross into the box from out wide, and Gutierres found the end of it, volleying the ball into the back of the net. The Legacy, up 1-0, continued to pressure Louisville’s defense. The home team saw two more opportunities in the 18’ and 20’ that were slightly off-target.
In the 22’, Louisville striker Kayla Fischer intercepted a mishit pass by goalkeeper Laurel Ivory and placed the ball in the back of the net to level the score. The Legacy, undeterred, continued to dominate possession and create sequences in their attacking third. Boston closed out the half with strong looks from Sarah Schupansky, Alba Cano and Annie Karich. The home team held 70% possession in the first frame.
The Legacy picked up where they left off coming out of the break, generating strong possessions in the attacking third and exploiting gaps in the Racing defense. Boston’s approach paid off just five minutes into the half, when Deja Davis drove a header into the back of the net following a bullet into the box from Schupansky. The goal was Davis’ first with the Legacy and in the NWSL.
Boston remained assertive after regaining their lead, winning battles for the ball and finding opportunities to force turnovers. Sammy Smith took a close-range shot in the 56’ that Louisville goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer managed to save. In the 60’, Boston made their first pair of substitutions, sending Aïssata and Ella Stevens on for Sammy Smith and Aleigh Gambone. Aïssata sparked the attack right away, streaking downfield and sending in a cross just a minute after entering the match.
In the 65’, Davis delivered her second strong header of the match, but was denied by Bloomer. Gutierres tried her luck in the 68’ with a shot curled towards the back post, but it sailed just over the crossbar.
Ivory was called into action in the 77’, making an impressive close-range save that preserved Boston’s 2-1 lead. In the 79’, Nichelle Prince and Josefine Hasbo replaced Amanda Gutierres and Annie Karich. The final stretch of the game was back and forth, with Boston relatively untested on defense. Barbara Olivieri replaced Sarah Schupansky at 90+3’. The Legacy closed out strong to secure a 2-1 victory in the final home match of their inaugural season.
