Legacy's dominant performance not enough in 2-1 defeat to Houston Dash
Pawtucket, RI (September 20, 2026) - The Legacy fell 2-1 to the Houston Dash on Sunday despite a dominant performance from the home side.
The match opened tightly contested between the two sides, with neither generating any real opportunities in the first several minutes of play. Boston found some success moving down the field, executing give-and-gos that pushed them into the attacking third. In the 10’, Sarah Schupansky fired an on-target shot from distance that Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell turned away for a Boston corner. The corner generated a couple of chances in traffic, but the final shot deflected off the post.
Boston continued to be assertive on the attack, exploiting seams in the Houston defense and threading services into the box. The Legacy created a pair of opportunities in the 14’, with Aïssata streaking into the box before being tripped up, followed by Annie Karich playing the ball in for what was ultimately an easy save for Campbell. In the 18’, Nicki Hernandez beat her defender and reached the end line before whipping a cross in to Bianca St-Georges, who ripped a shot on goal that sailed high. The Legacy kept probing, staying patient and intentional in the attacking third to scout their best look.
In the 24’, Aïssata was issued a yellow card. Nichelle Prince and Schupansky combined at 26’ to produce a shot that went wide. Despite Boston’s commanding offense, it was the Dash who netted first. Houston’s Danielle Colaprico finished off a corner kick at 44’ to give the visitors the lead heading into halftime.
The Legacy came out of halftime energized, seeing their first chance just a minute into the second half when St-Georges’ attempt hit the side of the netting. Prince followed up in the 47’, attempting to slip the ball near post at close range, but she too caught the side of the net. The Legacy found their equalizer at 58’. Hernandez drove a cross into the box that Aïssata managed to redirect to the back of the net to even the score.
Following the goal, the Legacy made their first substitution, swapping Aïssata with Amanda Gutierres. In the 63’, Alba Caño struck from just outside the box, but Campbell got a hand on it, pushing it over the top for a Boston corner. Three minutes later, Schupansky had an opportunity of her own, curling a strike that drifted slightly high. At 68’, the Legacy replaced Prince with Sammy Smith. Hernandez executed another strong cross at 70’, finding the feet of Gutierres, but her attempt was claimed by Campbell. Campbell was called into action again in the 79’ when Barbara Olivieri hammered a shot from distance. Boston made a pair of substitutions in the 81’: Aleigh Gambone on for Schupansky and Lilly Reale on for Hernandez.
The Dash threatened in the 85’, requiring an impressive punch-out from Murphy that Jorelyn Carabali eventually cleared. Within the next minute, Murphy made another strong save to deflect a Houston shot, but the ball dropped in just behind the goal line, putting the Dash up 2-1. Smith retaliated at 88’, taking a quick turn to set up a strike that was saved by Campbell. Olivieri’s 90’ shot offered a promising chance at a second equalizer, but the bid grazed the top of the crossbar. The Legacy sustained their attacking pressure and created a few more opportunities in the closing minutes of the match, but could not find the finish.
