Boston's 13-game scoring streak ends with 2-0 defeat at Seattle
Seattle, WA (September 25, 2026) - Boston’s record-setting 13-game scoring streak came to a close on Friday night in Seattle following a 2-0 loss to the Reign at Lumen Field.
The Legacy kicked off the game looking to play over the top to their strikers. Both teams probed for opportunities but did not find much separation early on. A 5’ Boston cross into the box just slipped by its target and was cleared by Seattle. Casey Murphy was called into action at 13’, making a save to keep the score level. Boston dominated the possession game early on, controlling 67% in the first 15 minutes.
The Reign found the back of the net at 23’. Jess Fishlock struck from outside the box, finding the lower left corner. Boston saw an opportunity on a 27’ set piece taken by Alba Caño. The ball curled towards Jorelyn Carabali on the run in good position, but Seattle goalkeeper Claudia Dickey came out to claim it. Murphy made her own save in the 31’. The Legacy went on the offensive in the 33’, creating a scramble in Seattle’s box but were unable to finish. The Legacy headed into halftime trailing 0-1.
Coming out of the break, Seattle looked to strike early, testing Casey Murphy just six minutes into the second half. Boston worked to combine through the midfield, looking to build possession higher up the field. At 48’, Annie Karich tried her luck from distance, but the effort sailed over the crossbar.
Boston turned to their bench in the 56’, sending Lilly Reale into the game for Deja Davis. In the following minutes, the Legacy generated a series of attacks as they pushed for an equalizer. Seattle responded in the 64’ with their second goal of the match: a well-placed strike from just outside the box.
The Legacy made a pair of substitutions at 75’, replacing Barbara Olivieri and Sammy Smith with Amanda Gutierres and Ella Stevens. Seattle continued to press as the game wore on, looking to deny Boston’s opportunities and control the game through the final minutes. Boston remained relentless late in the game – in the 85’, Sarah Schupansky threaded a ball over the top in search of Ella Stevens in the box, but the two could not quite connect.
The home team held firm as the final minutes elapsed, securing a 2-0 win and three points on the night.
